Clearly, there is a lot to be done before e-cigarettes can be considered as safe as they are often portrayed to be, not only from the internal health risk point of view (risk of cancer and other illnesses associated with smoking) but also physical injuries like the one in this case. Essentially, quality control remains an issue in this realm, with the industry still not subject to the kind of regulation it mandates. Hopefully, this incident will compel regulators to look at the entire e-cigarette industry more closely and put appropriate checks in place, especially with a lot of these products coming in from China where Quality Control in such industries is virtually non-existent.
