Giving away free eBooks can entice newsletter sign-ups and build your list. They are a great way to draw traffic. Writing an eBook will subtly shift the readers perception so that they start to see you as one of the "big guys" within your niche. I will show you how to write your own in this step by step eBook guide. Get an Idea The first step in this eBook guide is to come up with a clear concept to write about. This isn't a blog post so you shouldn't make it a general overview of a topic. You want to pick something that would make a whole series of blog posts. Write the Outline The next point of this ebook guide is to write your outline. This is a crucial step while writing your eBook. This will prevent you from writing for hours and find that you've wandered off topic. You also don't want to be staring at a blank screen wondering what you're going to say next. Draft the Content It's best to think of your eBook as a series of blog posts with each topic or chapter being a separate blog post. Using your outline helps to break down you eBook into easily manageable chunks. Here are four tips to help you while writing your eBook. Get Rid of Distractions Get rid of all distractions around you. Close out your Facebook, Twitter, Email or YouTube. Find a quiet place away from the primary living area of your home, this is where an office comes in handy. You don't want your spouse or children keeping you from focusing on your writing. Don't Edit as You Write It's important that you remember this is your first draft. There is no need to worry about the quality at this moment, just keep writing. You can come back later to edit and rewrite what you need to. Your goal here is to simply get a complete draft done. Don't Stop to Look Things Up What I mean here is don't worry about looking up the links, quotes or statistics that you are using in your eBook. Just make a little note for yourself and come back to that later. I usually use brackets to make my notes so I know where it is that I'm putting these things. Stopping part way through a paragraph or sentence can break your concentration and it's an easy way to get distracted. Redraft and Edit Ok, now that the first draft is done and all of your images are in place, it's time to take a deep breath and relax. The hard part is over. Now it's time to revise, edit and polish your eBook. This is where you definitely want to make sure you are free from ALL distractions. You simply have to put a new page at the beginning of your eBook and add your headings and subheadings along with the page numbers and now you have a table of contents. The appendix is used if you want to give some ideas for further reading that doesn't fit with the topics of your eBook or if you want to add a section for recommended resources. Create Your Front Cover Now on this, you don't want something with too much detail. Make sure you use a BIG clear font for your title. You might also consider having a subtitle or tagline in a smaller font. Be sure you stick to just two or three colors.
