In this interview, George talks with ArtistsNetwork.TV's Jennifer Lepore, about his passion for painting. When George began painting in 1965, there were no art schools nearby, so he took a correspondence course and a night job—studying by day and working at night. Once the course was complete, he quit his night job, and with twelve days of vacation pay in his pocket, he became a full-time painter. For the next few years, he painted from town to town and traded art for dollars. Within six months, his paintings hung in a gallery between the works of Picasso and Miro. After living and painting in San Francisco for nearly twenty years, George moved to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in Northern California. Now, George joins ArtistsNetwork.TV for two video workshops: Color Crash Course with George Allen Durkee and Expressive Oil Painting with George Allen Durkee: A Basic Approach (available at http://ArtistsNetwork.tv and http://NorthLightShop.com). You can view his paintings at gadurkee.com, or at The Art Gallery in Murphys, California, owned and operated by George and his wife.
