This gives them the appearance of stars in the night or fireflies floating in the air. There are two strands of wire running the entire 75 ft length and each wire is insulated with a clearcoat so it is waterproof. Since the wires are thin, about 26 gauge, they virtually disappear in the darkness. This also means they can be fragile, so try not to pull hard on them or bend them a lot at the same spot or it could break. The set of lights come loosely coiled in the box and were easy to unwrap, but I found it useful to re-wrap them onto a cardboard tube to prevent them from tangling. The lights are spaced every 6 inches so when wrapped on a pole or railing aren't too cramped together. There is one button on the back of the solar panel that turns the unit on and off. Every time you switch it off and on again, the mode will alternate between "always on" and "flashing." On a full charge in direct sunlight, the light can run continuously for 10-20 hours. The set comes with a stake or mounting hardware so you can place the solar panel when you need it. Note that the solar panel acts as a light sensor and these lights will only turn on when it is dark out. LEDs don't consume a lot of power or put out much heat so these are safe for direct contact with plants and trees. The lights have a pretty, yellow-golden hue to them and are nice for highlighting handrails, trees, and adding gentle lighting to your landscaping. Another idea would be to plant the stake outside and run the wire in through a window for use indoors. The wire is thin enough to sit between a closed window and the sill.
